The Colonial Secretary, Hong Kong, presents

his compliments to the Under Secretary of State for the

Colonies, London, and is directed to enclose herewith a

copy of a confidential letter No. 37 of the 18th of July,

1938, from the Governor to His Majesty's Ambassador,

Tokyo, on the subject of the detention of the Steam Ship

"ASIAN" by the Japanese Authorities, and to request that

this copy be forwarded to the Foreign Office for their

information.
